The Education & Cognitive Science Lab: Language, Literacy, and Cognitive Development

The newly founded Education & Cognitive Science Lab (ECS Lab: Principal Investigator, Lisa Hsin) is seeking undergraduates to support a variety of research activities investigating, broadly, linguistic and social-cognitive development in children ages 3 to 14. U.S. Classroom Libraries Database Project

The U.S. Classroom Libraries Database Project is a multi-state project, examining books that area available in elementary classroom libraries. A group of researchers from five states have developed a database of 58 classrooms and have documented the books found in those classrooms. Currently, the project team is working to clean and organize the database. Once the database is cleaned, in the Fall 2017, the team will be working on many projects related to children’s literature and analyzing children’s books. The N.E.R.D. Lab: Neurobiology of Language, Learning, and Development

The Neuroscience of Education Research on Development (or N.E.R.D.) Lab at UA studies how the human brain supports learning across the lifespan by examining the neurobiology of language processing and acquisition, focusing in particular on gesture. We use a variety of behavioral (eye tracking) and neuroimaging (EEG, fNIRS) methods to investigate how speech and gesture contribute to learning from childhood through adulthood in diverse populations.
