Erin KearnsDescription
In many parts of the country, tensions between police and community members are high. Proactive practices, such as community oriented policing, can help to bridge this divide. While the vast majority of police departments state that they engage in community policing, individual police officers are not all supportive of the practice. Dr. Kearns collected data from police officers in 3 departments around the Washington DC area to measure officer-level support for community policing. She is looking for an undergraduate student interested in policing (and perhaps considering graduate school) to assist with analyzing these data and writing a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal article. Ideally, the student's contribution would be significant enough to be a co-author who would be mentored and trained in academic data analysis and writing.
