Description

THIS OPPORTUNITY IS LIMITED TO PEOPLE IN THE EMERGING SCHOLARS PROGRAM Our research group is interested in death attitudes. Unsurprisingly, most people are not keen on death. Then again, we all have to die sometime. So there may be value in getting used to the idea. People were much more comfortable with death before modern medicine started to treat it like a medical failure. But now we don't like to utter the word, speaking about death in polite company is considered rude, etc. For this reason death always seems to take us by surprise. We are studying the things that make people of death as more or less tragic. We are doing a lot of little simple projects to figure out things like whether people think about a person's death immediately before and after they die. We are trying to see if people feel better about death when the think about all of the things they have already experienced, versus all of the things they have yet to experience. Some of our studies will involve working with participants in person. Others will involve developing online research procedures. If you are a freshman or sophomore and you just want to hang out with us and get involved, please get in touch.
