Description

Positions available: 1-3 per year. Preference will be given to students majoring in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), although other related majors will be considered. To apply, you must meet the following criteria to be seriously considered: 1) GPA > 3.3; 2) commit to 6 to 10 hours of working in the lab, preferably between 8 am and 1 pm, although some afternoon hours are fine for data management (We collect data in the morning), 3) be respectful of diversity and be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and 4) make a two semester commitment ( Fall and Spring). While credit is available (HD 493) for this opportunity, students may also just volunteer if they do not need elective research credits. This opportunity is for students interested in working in a research lab and studying the many aspects that influence young children's development (birth to 5 year olds) as well as learning the research process for studying young children and families. Students may expect to learn about literature searches, hypotheses testing, recruiting and consenting families with young children, collecting data on young children and their caregivers, scoring assessments, entering data, analyzing and interpreting data analyses. All undergraduate students accepted will be encouraged to present at UA's Undergraduate Research Conference in the Spring. Freshmen and sophomores are strongly encouraged to make application, although juniors and seniors will also be considered. For more information, email Dr. Maria Hernandez-Reif indicating your interest and how you meet criteria.
