While UA mandates distance instruction CMS lessons will be taught via alternative learning methods (ie Zoom or Skype). When UA allows in-person activities lessons will shift back to occurring on site at Moody Music Bldg.

Do not enroll until you have communicated directly with your selected teacher and have a confirmed lesson day/time AND length of lesson for the current semester. About the CMS Program:

The Community Music School (CMS) is a non-degree granting outreach program for the School of Music which serves interested students of all ages and levels of ability. An accredited member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education, the 60-member CMS faculty is comprised of School of Music faculty, selected graduate and undergraduate students, and professionals from the community. All CMS teachers have been background checked and completed mandated UA training. Over 600 students receive private and group instruction on wind, brass, string, piano, harp, organ, guitar, drums, voice, and composition/theory. The CMS also features a thriving Kindermusik® program for ages birth–7 years. Ensembles and group classes include the Tuscaloosa Youth Orchestra, Adult Brass Ensemble, Adult String Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. Lessons, classes and ensembles are open for enrollment year-round, with summer options also including a strings camp in June (Middle & High School), and a beginning level children’s musical (ages 6-12Y) in July.
